The red color, the F-number (F261) and the fast cyclist (pictogram) are the central elements to establish the identity of the cycle highway route. This branding strategy is used on the different wayfinding tools (signposts, metroline,...). This integration makes the cycle highway recognizable and consistent.

The color is related to the current cycle signage in the Netherlands (also red) and the number is a based on a national agreement around the cycle highway codes. Not all regions prefer the number, they sometimes prefer a name for the cycle highway which is more difficult to use on these signs. The logo is developed for the signposts but not everyone is positive. It might be interpretated as if the cycle highway is only for fast cyclists, which is not the case.

Functionality
  • Cycle highway codes (see CHIPS' identity principles): letter + number combination
  • Recognizable
  • Good colour contrasts (see CHIPS' recommended identity principles)
  • Different from normal cycle signage (might be confusing for cyclists)
  • The fast cyclists (pictogram) assumes that you have to cycle fast (or all cyclists will cycle fast) on a cycle highway
